Introduction

As you read Homer's Epic poem the Odyssey, you will learn about common epic conventions and both identify and analyze their use in the poem. During our exploration of the Greek classic, you will write your own epic and apply your knowledge of these conventions by including your own unique literary devices to compose a masterpiece for publication. By the end of the Odyssey unit, you will follow Homer's protagonist, Odysseus' journey home, while venturing on your own journey as you explore your imagination and bring your own fictional hero to life.

Objectives:

  1. Define, identify and analyze epic conventions.
  2. Complete the writing process of an epic poem (pre-write, rough draft, edit, and publish).
