While the Varsity Dons were improving their pre-season record to 3-1 (final score Dons 22, Oilers 7), the news of the night was the halftime ceremony dedicating the field to legendary ER football coach, Ernie Johnson (1956-1968). Many former players of Coach Johnson's attended and participated in the ceremony. The evening was also designated "Staff Appreciation Night." Wearing Don football jerseys for the day, the ERHS teachers filed out and were recognized during halftime, as well.
