Includes two-page color senior class photo. Students are standing in shape of graduating year. This was only the 2nd time this had been done in ER history. The last time was 1965. Hereafter, it became a regular tradition.

Motorcycles were a popular mode of transportation and the parking lot was full of them.

Includes a two-page layout on the Hypnotist Assembly: "At a hypnotist assembly this year, Lou March and 16 volunteers demonstrated the power and advantages of hypnotism. And the audience would have to agree, ER has the finest striptease dancers in the world!"

The Quad was covered in toilet paper for the traditional "Senior Prank."

Changing Demographics: "Twenty-three years have brought changes to the El Rancho population. Nine hundred people were here when the Ranch first opened. Now, we boast 2,722 students. The change is not limited just to our size. Our ethnic ratios have shifted as well. In 1952, we were approximately 80% Anglo, and 20% Mexican-American. Today, our breakdown is 72% Mexican-American, followed by 27% Anglo. There are also 21 Asians, 1 Black and 1 Indian. And, as many boy-watchers should know, boys outnumber the girls by 49!!"

There was a faculty/sheriff basketball game, which "proved to be a wild event as the faculty showed their 'competitive toughness' when they won 56-43."

"Brown Union is a club dedicated to encourage Mexican-Americans to pursue higher education and to assist the general public in gaining an understanding and appreciation of Chicanos and their rich 6,000 year old heritage."

Band Field Trip: "the 111 member band travelled by bus to Vancouver and Victoria, Canada...band members fully experienced their travels by staying with Canadian families during their time with our neighbors to the North."

Rain, a beatles-like band, played their 5th annual concert and received "a great amount of applause."

The Los Angeles Rams played the ERUSD coaches in a fundraising basketball game.

New Sports League: Back to the San Gabriel Valley League (again).

The Donnete Drill Team traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii for "The King Kamehameha Parade"--"While in Honolulu they went on a boat trip to Pearl Harbor, ate fresh pineapple, and did a lot of sunning and swimming."

Drama Club went to New York: "The trip took place over Christmas vacation with 23 students and 2 chaperones going in all. The cost was $349 a piece, which the students paid out of their own pockets. While there, a guide showed them places such as the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, and Twin Towers. Also they had the pleasure of seeing "The Whiz," "The King and I," "Saint Jude," and "Annie," in which they met one of the actors, Edwin Bordo."

"The Girls' League Formal Dance, a girl-ask-boy dance, has been a tradition at El Rancho since 1953...the theme for this year's dance...was 'Garden of Paradise.'"

Two-page layout on the 15th Annual Student Leadership Conference, which was held on the ER campus this year.

The traditional "Rain Concert" (a rock group dedicated to singing Beatles songs) at ER was the focus of one page, as was the assembly/demonstration by professional hypnotist Joyce Sharp.

A "new schedule" allowed for lunchtime intramural sports, including a 3-on-3 Basketball tournament.

"Participating for their second year here at El Rancho were the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams played a basketball game against the coaches of the entire ERUSD. The game, which took place in the gym on March 8, was won by the Rams."

Proficiency Tests: "All students, starting with the class of '81, were made aware of the new requirements for graduation. The recently enacted Hart Bill requires high school students to prove that they can read, write, and do basic math before receiving a diploma."

"Campus Crackdown Effective: It was the security agents' duty to keep the halls and quad free of stray student during classes, and they did their job extremely well. Students who roamed the halls during class were frequently stopped by the security guards and strongly urged to go to class."
