Powder Puff: "The Senior team was not able to manage a single point, but they still felt their last Powder Puff game was an enjoyable and memorable one."

Ms. Peterson was an ER Pepster back in 1990.

The 37th Annual Co-ed Capers show included BOYS! "It was the first performance to permit boys into the dance routines. But there was a reason for this, and that was because in the previous year the number of girls joining together had reached an ultimate low, thus resulting in the cancellation of the show for that year. So, talk of allowing boys into the performance became a reality, and so, Coed Capers was brought back together and brought with a bang."

Drama Club is said to be 128 members strong!

Class Skits: "Another fun tradition...are the class skits. Taking place during the Basketball season, two skits are performed each Friday at the lunch pep rally."

Class Debates: "Every year, all four classes compete against each other in the Sherman Debates. This year marks the 11th year of the verbal joust. Across the nation a topic is chosen to be debated. Books on the issue have been published just for the event. 'Resolved: That the Federal Government Should adopt a nation-wide policy to decrease over crowding in prisons and jails in the U.S.' This was elected the controversial topic of 1990. Long grueling hours of research and practice had been spent creating a strong defense, whether it be in favor or in opposition of the topic."

California State Lottery: "In sports alone, more than $580,000 of lottery funds have been spent, for things such as the new football scoreboard, which cost $50,000, and the stadium bleachers, which cost $197,000. For educational resources, approximately $243,000 have been spent on things like library book repairs, which cost $6,006."

VICA: "El Rancho's VICA tradition of welding has been around for at least 20 years and we hope to keep the tradition alive."

Final year of boys gymnastics, a sport begun in 1955 at El Rancho, which grew to include the prestigious ER Gymnastics Invitational.

New Club: American Indian Club.

Actor Edward James Olmos: "On February 6, 1991 a very positive Hispanic role model ventured into the El Rancho gymnasium.... Mr. Olmos opened to a very energetic crowd consisting of Freshmen and Seniors, due to the lack of seating space availbalbe in the gym. He spoke to the students as a peer, using language very familiar to most. He was not the typical generic motivational speaker, instead he spoke from the heart."

Red Ribbon Week: "With the increasing popularity of drugs in high schools, many schools have opted to instill anti-drug campaigns. Nationwide the third week of October has been designated Red Ribbon Week. The red ribbons signify one's drug free."

Academic Decathlon: "...once announced at an additional awards banquet, the Decathloners were overjoyed to find their unanimous ambition of first place in the Southeast Region and top 15 in the L.A. County had been obtained. 'I was happy and glad Mr. Anderson will not be angry with us!' stated Jay Boyette."

New Club: "This year marks the first year of a Thespian Club. Many people ask what a thespian is. To be a thespian it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Being a thespian is not easy work. You must give 100% of your time, love, honor, and you must be willing to be humiliated at the end of the year through initiation.

New Club: "The Art Club consists of students involved in the art class on campus. The art club travels to museums to see the priceless paintings. These students study the treasures of the great painters and sculptors. They also study new techniques in painting, such as air brush."

New Club: "The Snow Club is on the verge of starting a new and powerful tradition. These ski freaks, although they are miles from the snow, will go to any lengths to hit the slopes with fellow students."

The VICA tradition continues: "Not only do we get to compete against other schools, [VICA] also finds us jobs for the future ahead. In the past, ER has won awards up to 201 in welding, not only that, ERHS has one of the top 5 welding facilities in the state..."

Academic Decathlon: "For the first time in El Rancho history, the Academic Decathlon broke the top ten and came in seventh place overall among 80 schools in the Los Angeles county."

"A tradition continues with the Pep Commission. Each Monday after school the Pep Commission members meet to draw and paint the color banners that hang at the school activities."

1st appearance of the Creative Writing class in the yearbook.

"Rock Challenge is a big competition that deals with social issues through music and dance. It originated in Australia about thirteen years ago. This year is the first year that Rock Challenge has come to America. Since it was held in California our very own ERHS got the chance to compete. El Rancho went with more than 100 students. As a result of this fun-filled event, El Rancho came home with winning first place and also awards in best costumes and best staging and set design."

Includes 2 page layout on the Secrets Assembly, "an AIDS theater production based on true stories."

Historical Homecoming Queen "...[Araceli Bermudez] made ER history by winning four years in a row. Year after year she was known as the girl with the knock out smile." The "four years in a row" included '92 Homecoming Queen, '91 Junior Princess, '90 Sophomore Princess and '89 Freshman Princess.

House: "The 'house' program is in its first year here at ER. The 'house' is made up of 32 students and 4 teachers. These students have the same four teachers for science, English, social studies and math. Since, the teachers share the same students, they are able to monitor and watch the students' progress."

Night Pep Rally: "The Seniors were represented by Speedy Gonzalez, the Juniors by leprechauns, the sophomores by jailbirds, and the Freshmen were freaky. Each class put up quite a battle, but in the end, Seniors emerged victorious."

"This year's Academic Decathlon team proved to everyone that if you work hard enough at something, success is inevitable. By taking first place in the Southeast Region and eighth place out of the entire Los Angeles County, the ten member team reinstated the fact that ER is a strong competitor."

"...the Executive Commission worked at collecting money to help the Malibu/Laguna Beach fire victims. Seven hundred dollars was collected at football games and from students on campus. Rick De Reyes from Channel 7 Eyewitness News came to ER and accepted the check on behalf of the Channel 7 Fire Relief Fund."

"For the second year in a row, El Rancho placed first at the annual Rock Challenge competition in Southern California."

Sports league changed from the Whitmont League to the Del Rio League.

New Club: Peer Counselors, and Chess Club.
