Call to order
Dr. Aurora Villon called to order the regular meeting at 5:02PM on 11/4/2009 in the school library.
SSC quorum was confirmed

Approval of minutes from last meeting
School site council members individually read the October 7th meeting minutes. James Halley motioned/ Alfredo Martinez Halley 2nd the minutes be approved as read. Motion carried and passed.
Student representatives report- Tina Castellanos, Leandra Dominguez Bo Guillen and Taylor Torres reported the following:
- Homecoming skits had a few setbacks with sound and it rained but still went well.
- Red Ribbon Week – 300 pledges to be “Drug Free”
- Football Team Parent Night @ game – dads received seat cushions and mom’s received flowers
- Canned food drive from 11/2 to 11/13. There will be a class competition and also a 1st period class competition. Goal is to collect 10,000 lbs of canned food. Last year 7,000 was collected.
- Junior/Senior Powder Puff game set for December 10th
- Christmas tree decoration class competition will be held on December 9th. Trees will be donated to families in need.
DAC report- Dr. Aurora Villon was unable to attend the meeting due to illness
Special Ed- No report
EIA/SCE- Mr. Genis will report during administration report
GATE- No report
Administration- Mr. Genis reported the following:
- Announced Ana Melgar was hired as the new dean. Ms. Melgar was an El Rancho HS. Pre-Cal and Statistics teacher. Lucy Stewart took over her teaching position. Transition was smooth not to many class changes were needed.
- Tutorial is going well. Good supervision during tutorial. More lunches are being sold since the lines are not as long. There is also an increase participation in nutrition.
- Due to the economic crisis, three “Furlough days” have been added to the school year and should be board approved at the next school board meeting. The tentative dates are November 25, April 2nd, and May 28th.
- Still waiting for Mid-year budget from governor
Separate Action items:
- Budget items- School Site Council unanimously approved the following expenditures from categorical funds
- Approved -HIT HITCPX2010 Hitachi projector quotes from Troxell Communications. Five projectors @ $555.00 $2775.00, EIA/SCE funds to be used. Projectors to be used in ELD classrooms. Motioned by Antoinette Paez/2nd Esther Mejia
- Approved- December 2-3, 2009 “Secondary Literacy Summit IX” (Best Practices for School-Wide Literacy) attendance for literacy coach and a second person to be determined. Cost at $400 per person. Summit was attended last year and attendance would benefit all 10th graders. Motioned for approval by Tina Castellanos/ 2nd Alfredo Martinez
- Approved- January 11th Professional Development day workshop on “Block Scheduling” to be presented by Louis Mangione. Workshop will focus on using time wisely and effectively. Teachers who previously attended the workshop felt that all teachers would benefit from the workshop. Total cost of the workshop is $3,500 which is inclusive of travel expenses. Mr. Genis invited school site council members to attend the workshop. Motioned for approval by Pat Gomez/2nd Esther Mejia.
- DAC Alternate Election- First alternate Esther Mejia and second alternate Antoinette Paez
- An in depth “API/AYP” presentation was made by Dr. Ventura with the handout that she disseminated to all in attendance. El Rancho’s API is currently 692. Dr. Ventura discussed what AYP was as well as reviewed the AYP criteria of participation rate, percent proficient, API and graduation rate. She also shared the “Action Plan” to meet the AYP.

Public Comment
- Ms. Aguillon shared some information on “PASS” program for migrant students. She will meet with Mr. Genis to give more information to him on the program.
- Esther Mejia announced the Cross Country Team is having a Christmas Tree/Wreath fundraiser
