School Site Council Meeting El Rancho High School Minutes 4/14/15

1.  FLAG SALUTE--Led by Brandy  Sandoval

2.  CALL TO ORDER--Maria Martinez called the meeting to order  at 5:11pm.

3.  ROLL CALL--Quorum  confirmed

a)ASB Report

PAST:  Executive Commissioner hosted Sadie Hawkins dance along with Dance Commissioner (Ana Lezama) on March 29, 2015.   Students took midterm exams the last week  of March until April 3, 2015.   Spring Break was from April 6-12.
PRESENT:  Students returned to school on April 13.  Grades for progress reports were due  today  at 9am.   Executive Commissioners are preparing for Don Games.  Seniors are teamed up with Freshmen to compete against Juniors and  Sophomores.
FUTURE:  Power  106 basketball game. Executive Commission is preparing for next year’s student body.   Spring sports are preparing for their seasons to begin and  are hoping for more  support from the student body.

b)Special Education Report--No report

c)DAC/DELAC Reports--Ms. Kwek will present State of the School address and provide information about programs offered  at ERHS.

d)Principal’s Report--Ms. Kwek provided details about Gold Ribbon recognition. Gold Ribbon committee visited ERHS on April 2nd to validate information about our school.  Committee focused on current professional development model and  how trainings are integrated with vision for ERHS.  Result of visit will be announced in May. Academic Decathlon team  honored by LA County  Board  of Supervisors.  Pictures to be uploaded onto  Don Page. School Wide Action Team has been marketing ERHS across district.  Students in Preschool, TK and  Kindergarten programs have  received “Future Don” t-shirts.  Group  from ERHS met with 6th graders at North Park Middle School. ERHS will be at upcoming Health Fair.

6.   LEGAL REQUIREMENTS--Single Plan for Student Achievement
School Site Council provided Ms. Kwek with feedback regarding goals on SPSA. Completed evaluation about SPSA (strengths, needs, possible goals for next year). Ms. Kwek announced Parent Rounds scheduled for April 28th at 8am.   Parents are
invited to participate.  Meeting to learn more  about PTSA on May 5th after School Site
Council. Bylaws distributed, SSC  will make  changes if needed at next meeting.

PUBLIC COMMENTS--Josie Cambero asked if more  information can  be included online about classes available at ERHS.  Ms. Kwek will research ways to update website to include descriptions and  names of courses available.  Ms. Gollette considers website to be a good  way for families to learn more  about our school.  Maria
Martinez inquired about International Baccalaureate program and  possibility of bringing it to ERHS.  ERHS administrators to attend IB conference in October 2015.   Process of making IB program available to students will take  about 3 years. ERHS staff visited Wilson High School to learn more  about IB program.  Visit to another school in San Diego area  in near  future.   Ms. Gollette suggested free online training for parent SSC members available through LAUSD.
