Digital Communications English Fulfills "a - g" requirement.
Digital Communications is being presented as a new course designed to integrate essential Career Technical Education Model California standards in the Information and Communication Technologies industry sector. The curriculum, however, also integrates a variety of English Language Arts skills, particularly in communicating through listening/speaking and writing. Students enrolled in Digital Communications learn and interact with various media types, skills, and tools to produce the school's literary publications. Students study industry-related publication policies and procedures relative to digital media and visual communications in a high school setting. Students will interact with the curriculum and demonstrate learning through the use of a variety of Web 2.0 tools, including various types of publication software. Students build the habits of mind necessary to enhance their understanding of leadership, teamwork, and higher-level thinking for decision-making and career planning. Students improve their critical thinking and writing skills, advance their understanding of journalistic writing and reporting, and increase their access to quality, complex reading pieces about the world around them. All of the learning outcomes within the course are tied directly to ELA and/or CTE content standards and reflect the essence of the key ideas outlined within those standards.
